True Radiance Winter Mask

I love this winter mask, but be prepared it is very messy. However the results are so good that it is totally worth it. We all get paper dull, winter-worn skin, but this little trick will make your face radiant. Combine 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 2 Tbs. of honey, 1 Tbs. of olive oil and one egg white. Apply layer of the mixture to your face and let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water. The oatmeal exfoliates while the honey and oil moisturize, and the egg shrinks pores to tighten skin. The result is a soft, radiant glowing complexion.

P.S. When rinsing use a kitchen sink with a garbage disposal or scoop it off with your fingers over a kitchen trashcan. You don't want the oatmeal chunks going down your bathroom drain.

iPhone & iPod SpeakerTrick

You all know that I love to come up with simple home solutions that are inexpensive and make my life easier. I love my iPhone and yes I used to be a Droid girl, so I know them both pretty well. However iPhone won me over for now. There is one thing that I wish could be better on iPhone, and that is the lovely speakers. When you take a shower, wash dishes or have a dryer running while you are pre-treating another load of laundry, the speakers are just not very kind to you. Yes of course I can dish some cash and buy portable speakers in every room of my house but why waste your money if you don't have to?

Place your iPhone in a glass, speakers down and YAY you can jam to any music during your household chores without a problem. Try it, and let me know what you think!

7 Ways To Reuse Newspaper In The Winter

I always like to get the most out of everything that I buy and use. For example my Sunday Newspaper, I read the section that catches my eye, look through the weekly ads and clip coupons. However it does not stop there. Each season brings me different opportunities for truly using the newspaper to it’s fullest potential. Here are my 7 way of squeezing the reuse of newspaper in the winter time.

Quick & Easy Chicken Salad

Last night I was not up for cooking a big meal, honestly I was kind of feeling lazy. So I decided to pick up 2 rotisserie chickens. I made some mashed potatoes with corn and served the legs, thighs and wings. I always save leftover breasts for lunch the next day.

One of my favorite simple dishes to make with the leftovers is my Quick and Easy Chicken Salad that has only 3 ingredients.

The Inn at Rose Harbor

I give an A ~ It is a great delight to discover the start of a new series of books and fall in love with it. Rose Harbor Inn sounds like a delightful place to stay and Jo Marie is the perfect innkeeper. I felt empathy for the guests and their problems. Jo Marie is a young widow who decides she needs to make a major change in her life at part of her moving on with life. She buys a bed and breakfast across the sound from Seattle. This book focuses on her moving in and on her first two guests.

My Favorite Broccoli Cheese Soup

Creamy, rich broccoli-cheese soup is perfect for those cold nights that don’t want to go away. As much as I love the broccoli-cheese soups I am not crazy about all those calories and fat grams. So, I decided to try my old recipe with fat free half-and-half cream to see if I can still pull off the creamy, rich taste. To my surprise the soup turn out to be amazing with the same great taste.

Oh What a Joy

I don't know how many of you have a system for returning your cans and bottles or if your state even participates in this, but here in Michigan when you return a bottle or can you get a dime for each one. So once a month I show up to my grocery store with bags of rattling cans and bottles. Oh what a joy (can you hear my sarcasm?). However since I want to get all my dimes back it's just part of a monthly ritual.

Why can't they just invent huge bins where you can just dump all your cans in at once, and few seconds later you are done. Kind of like when you drive on the highway and you see those toll booths. For those of you that have change, you just toss it all in and the lovely gate opens.

I want to just dump all my cans and bottles at once and then press the button and get my slip. Is that too much to ask? Oh wait, or is the slow process part of their game? If you don't take them back more, money for them! Well I am getting all my dimes back no matter how long of a process it will be, but a friendlier system to the consumer would be greatly appreciated.

Homemade Chicken Alfredo

I have to say, this is my 1st time making Chicken Alfredo from scratch. Usually I just pick up whatever Alfredo sauce is on sale that week and poof I am done. Most of you will look at this going, "Wait a minute, what happen to the fettuccine noodles?" Well I Am Just a Wife, not a Chef. You will not see me making special trips to the grocery store because I have the wrong noodles. Since it was between these noodles and lasagna noodles in my kitchen pantry. I decided these would be a better fit LOL.

This Is Your Year

Here's to being the most amazing year yet and to making our dreams come true!

Fruit Hedgehog

Fun and Healthy Snack :)

Yup this is going on my next shopping list. Only I am going to try to mix it up with red and green grapes since my kids like them both. As to the black olive, very cute but my kids don't care for them so I will need to find a different nose. My pictures will be posted here next week. Have you tried making this? Join me in making this for your child, your significant other to put a smile on their face, or make it for your girlfriends get together to get a fun reaction out of her.

Here are my cute Fruit Hedgehogs :)

Lip Scrub

Lip Scrub: Mix together 1 tablespoon of olive oil (you can use any oil), 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoons of sugar. Using either your finger or your toothbrush, buff onto your lips in tiny circular motions to scrub away any dry, dead skin. Wash the scrub off with water, and remember to moisturize afterwards with petroleum jelly to seal in the benefits. You can store the left overs in a small empty eye cream container, or any small container that you can find. I found an empty beef cube container LOL and made a double batch.

My Sweet Angel

I have tears in my eyes each time I read this today, so I thought I would share this with you. I love my daughter with all my heart and just like any other mom out there I want the best for her now and her future life. Our life as a girl, daughter, woman, mom, wife, grandmother throws challenges our way everyday. We are the glue of the family in every way, each day of our lives. Growing My Pineapple

Ok, I have to be honest. When I buy any plant for my house it dies after few months. I start believing I am a plant killer so I stop buying plants.  However my summer vegetable and plant gardens are amazing.

For those of you that know me, will not be surprised that now I would like to try to grow a pineapple plant.  Why not? I am still growing my lemon tree (started last year in April) and yes I live in Michigan and the tree is still alive. As to the lemon tree I will let you know about that progress next week.  Let's concentrate on growing a pineapple LOL.

But does it work?  Can you actually grow your own pineapple at home in Michigan? I know in a warm climate it would be easier, but what the heck, I love challenges so here we go.

This is my pineapple that I got at Meijer my local grocery store.  I would love to name my pineapple…..no good names come to my mind right now. I am asking you all for some help in that area. Any suggestions?

~ Exfoliate or Make a Mask ~

Starting with clean skin, steam your face by putting a hot washcloth on your face.  When the washcloth cools off, repeat the process two more times. By doing this you are opening your pores and you are now ready to exfoliate or you can keep it on as a mask for the next 10 minutes.  Which ever one you pick, when you start, apply using a gentle circular motion.

Exfoliating Baking Soda Face Mask Recipe:
  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons of water
Gently rinse away with warm water. Take the same washcloth and put it under cool water and place it on your face to close your pores. Keep the wash cloth on your face until it no longer feels cold.  Repeat the this step one more time. Let your face air dry. Now you are ready for your eye cream and your night cream.

By doing this, you will remove your excess oil and your dull dead skin cells are buffed away by the microdermabrasion-sized particles of baking soda, getting rid of clogged pores that can lead to blackheads. When done twice a week regularly, this will aid in ridding the skin of blackheads and it will clear up your skin.

P.S. You can do this even if you have sensitive skin :)

Yum Chocolate Brown!

This outfit just screams my name! I love chocolate brown and natural colors, they bring out an edgy, "I am cool" look. I don't think I would even change one thing. It's so perfect, why spoil it?

Pot Roast Dinner

Here in chilly Michigan, I am always looking for home-cooked meals to warm the heart. For me, that means using the Crock-Pot at least once a week.
This is a very easy moist recipe for a delicious beef pot roast. It makes its own sauce that at the end I will show you how to make a delicious gravy. This recipe is designed to taste like you cooked all day in the kitchen, but let’s face it if you are a mom we all need a break some time. The mixture of onion, garlic and red pepper gives you a nice reach taste.
My kids do not like to eat onions and red pepper however they love the flavor it creates on their meat. At the end I like to add corn to the vegetables for some color (of cause I was out of corn today LOL). Next time when I make this meal again I will add pictures with corn in it, so you can see the difference.

Grand Rapids, Michigan

This is why I love you Grand Rapids, Michigan!

All Purpose Organic Cleaner

Despite of what you think I am defiantly not a neat freak. My nightstand is frequently a disaster area and dust bunnies are not an endangered species at my house. But truthfully I get a deep personal satisfaction out of making my surroundings beautiful and comfortable.
I have learned a few tricks that make housekeeping less discouraging and more delightful. For one thing I try and tidy up every night before bed time: dishes always get put in the dishwasher.  Is there anything more depressing in the morning than a sink full of greasy crockery.  I spritz the sink and my kitchen counters with my favorite all purpose organic cleaner, watered down white vinegar.
In the morning after I shower  I use more of my deluded water vinegar spray to freshen up the tiles and my shower curtain. Then I spray with the watered down white vinegar my foggy mirror and I keep a special squeegee under my bathroom sink to allow me to wipe down the mirror before it gets any annoying water spots or streaks.

No wonder my hubby always wonders what takes me so long to get ready, maybe someday when he discovers this post he will finally understand :)

Life As I Know It

Loved this book!

From the moment Jessica Taylor was struck by lightening, I was drawn into this very unique, thought provoking novel.

Melanie Rose gives new meaning to: "what if you had the chance to live someone else's life?"

I was pleasantly surprised by the moral dilemma presented and how the characters respond to them.

It makes you ask yourself: How would you react if this would happen to you?

I honestly could not put the novel down, each chapter would draw me in deeper and deeper.  This book will leave you with joy, tears, hopefulness and wonder.

Ranchero Chicken Soup

There is nothing better than a warm bowl of soup on a snowy wintry day. Did you know that chicken soup also soothes your soul and helps your body burn more fat?

This Ranchero Soup has a little zesty twist, but your kids will ask for more. If you are short on time you can buy a ready rotisserie chicken and just cut up the breasts in to pieces.

Sharpen Scissors Easy Way

How do you sharpen your scissors at home?

I fold a sheet of foil several times and cut through it with a pair of dull scissors to sharpen the blades to my satisfactorily level.

I wish I would have a magical button in my kitchen. After each meal I can just press the button and the kitchen would be nice and clean

Hair Magic!

Ok, so I want to try this on my hair, but I get lost after the 3rd step. I can not find any written instruction and am unable to find who this picture belongs too. So do any of you know what do we tuck in to on the 4th step? How is the last step holding the hair in place?

Design your own lamps for a special occasion!

Now tell me if this would not be a nice piece of conversation at your party. So simple and quick to make and so pretty. For my next girlfriends get together I am definitely making these.  The fun thing is,  you can make one for any holiday theme that you host.  Just make them all ahead of time and store them in a shoe box and pull the once you need for the special event.

I LOVE COFFEE!

How many cups of coffee does it take to get you going in the morning? I am currently on my 2nd cup and waiting for the caffeine to kick in.

What is the best garlic press?

I believe I found the best garlic press!  Let me introduce you to Bru Joy.

As I was making last night’s dinner, I could not wait to use my new stainless steel garlic clove press (shhh I selected a dish with garlic for only that reason). I was like a little kid in a candy store. Now, this garlic press costed a little more than what I would have ordinarily paid for, but I can not say that I regret that decision. I am actually giving myself a pat on the back. Now are you ready? Here is my favorite part, I did not have to peel the clove.  Yup thats right no clove peeling! I did try it peeled and not peeled because I could not believe my eyes but it worked perfect every time. Also, I like having the basket attached with a hinge and it swings out nicely to clean. For sure it won't get lost in the dishwater or my drawer. I am donating my old one to Goodwill because I did not have the heart to toss it in the trash. I know it sounds crazy, but the old one has been with me for over 10 years and he still look good. Bottom line is if you need one get this one and if you don’t need one still get this one, because you will love it!

How long do you keep your makeup?

After reading last night Save or Toss, by makeup.com, I went through my makeup drawer and notice that some of those products may be reaching their 2nd or 3rd birthdays? But hey, I want to get my money’s worth when I spend the big bucks on pricey products, and I am not about to throw away half a bottle of moisturizer just because the directions told me to. Instead, I decided to see these directions as open to my interpretation of use the makeup that had it's 3rd birthday 1st. However I did make a new rule: Do not buy any more new makeup until you are totally out of your old one.

So for those of you that are as bad as me, here is a copy of Save or Toss and you decide what you need to do.

January 2014 Declutter & Organize!

As you all know my biggest challenge is to be more organized, and I would like to declutter my house. Being able to find things when I am looking for them makes me happy. I used to think that I need a bigger space, more room, a larger home.  Strike that! You can live comfortably and grandly in any living space as long as you limit your possessions to the ones you actually need and love.

It’s very easy in a busy life such as ours to let a few things slide here and there, and before you know it, you have a big mess! Let’s face it - “clutter happens” and clutter is one of the biggest time wasters of our house keeping duties. Well no more mess! I am getting back on track!

So I have created for January a calendar that I will share with you to help me stay focused. If you feel overwhelmed at your house, please join me in this monthly challenge.

Here are few tips that I set for myself:

P.J. Day!

Every once in awhile I like to declare a pajama day, well today is the day  How can I resist soft and snuggly PJ? I encourage my family and blog followers to join in. If you can do a full day that's great if not any amount of time will bring a snuggly feeling in to your heart. Almost wish EVERY day could be a pajama day!

Easy Double Chocolate Mousse

Every New Years Eve we finish of with my favorite Double Chocolate Mousse while we wish for a sweeter year. This recipe is so easy and its mighty good.
